Who comes to the house

Jon and Nancy

You don’t get whoever had a hole in the calendar. You choose Jon or Nancy. Your trainer walks into your kitchen, your hallway, the door that turns into a circus — and stays in that room until the dog has a way to be in it. Both Jon and Nancy are bilingual. Choose your session in English or French.

30 days of phone, email, and text support included. Further in-person training requires a pass or pay-as-you-go booking.

From Texas Rescue to Balanced Pack Member

Mimi is Jon and Nancy’s Blue Ticked Pointer Mix. She arrived with a history of biting and high reactivity.

The challenge

  • People and dog reactivity
  • High prey drive
  • Anxiety and pulling
  • Counter surfing

Arrival and the Chalet routine

Mimi arrived from Texas as Mia, but a sign from her past returned her to her original name: Mimi. Her transition wasn’t easy; she struggled with dog introductions and shared space.

We established her Chalet — her crate — as her safe haven. For Mimi, we also switched to a raw diet. Structured movement helped her learn to coexist with Marrue, our senior pack leader.

Today, she joins us for Pack Walks, car rides and trips to the park.

Jon and Nancy.

An underwriter and a project manager walk into your living room.

Jon and Nancy spent 25+ years in the insurance industry — Jon in underwriting, Nancy in project management. They know how to assess risk, build a plan, and hold people accountable to it. Turns out that's exactly what dog training requires.

"We were managers, so we know when to call you on your excuses and turn them into action items. We're tricky like that."

Most communication breakdowns — whether with people or dogs — come down to the same things: unclear signals, inconsistent follow-through, and nobody willing to call it out. We built BetterDog to fix that. Professional, judgment-free, and completely in your corner.

What Ottawa–Gatineau households say

Thus far have had an incredible experience with better dogs! We have only taken the introductory class so far, where Nancy sat us down took us a bit through dog psychology before she started teaching us practical skills to help take command.
M.
All I can say is WOW, I was sceptical of some reviews saying they’ve seen monumental changes in under 24 hours but they are all 100% factual. Jon is very knowledgeable and clear and direct with communication and what needs to be done.
J. | Gatineau
This has got to be the best trainer ive come across, we had Jon for our four dogs, two of which we're highly problematic. He came in super well organized with a plan for each dog already which he can tailor further.
